Cadillac may base European car on a Saab

General Motors is close to a decision on development of a small Cadillac based on the Saab 9-3 for sale outside North America. Two variants of the 9-3, a sedan and a convertible, are being considered, according to GM sources in Europe. The models could provide much-needed volume for Cadillac's new independent distributor in Europe. If approved for production, the Saab-based Cadillac sedan would be assembled at Saab's plant in Trollhattan, Sweden

Cadillac will offer a lower-priced entry-level version of the CTS sedan with a smaller engine for the 2005 model year. The division will replace the base model's 3.2-liter V-6 and lower the price slightly from the current one. Just about every body panel on the 20051/2 version of Cadillac's Escalade ESV model is new. The front styling is completely revised, though the vehicle is still easily identifiable as a Cadillac. Grille size appears slightly smaller with more angle to the side bars, A wider sheetmetal panel separates the grille from the stacked headlights. Front fenders offer softer wheelhouse flares and blend into the windshield post with a less abrupt arc. The greenhouse shape has been revised, offering fewer sharp corners and a slightly smaller glass area.
